Road Tax In Virginia
We are considering making our own fuel for the work truck and just to CYA, I decided to check into road tax for biodiesel. I received confirmation that in the state of Virginia, there is NO road tax on biodisel. Home-made or otherwise... They are in discussion to pass legislation to make it taxable at some point in 2009, but that remains to be seen.
Just thought this was a pretty interesting piece of info.

But, I don't think that everyone is on the same page just yet in how to enforce it. It may still be considered something akin to making whiskey in your bathtub for personal consumption.

BTW, my 07 5.9L CTD doesn't like bio blends greater than about 40-50%.

According to the guy at DMV that I spoke to, anything that we make ourselves is 100% nontaxable. And from what we've heard, it will work in the work truck, we just have to ease up to 100% usage.
Now we just have to come up with the $$$ for all the stuff needed.

Good Luck! If I were you, I'd work on finding the supply of oil to see if that can be sustained before you go buy lots of biodiesel making kit equipment.
I wouldn't stir up too many questions at the tax office though...

Guy in Floyd County was busted selling bio. Officials close biodiesel operation - Roanoke.com I wanted to make some for my own use but the county says no because it is a hazard.

They left that open for debate. I'm taking their interpretation as any quantity larger than you can buy in a store container. Oh wait? Are they aware what can be bought in an parts store? Said I could and would be cited for fire and environmental hazards. So unless I blow the shed up they will not know will they?
