Is it normal to add coolant to the reservoir on my 6.0 power stroke, then when it idles, the coolant disappears?
Also, how much should the egr delete package cost to have done around OK City Ok?

 

i bought everything and did it myself. look on ebay egr delete kit not that high. as long as you have time to do it takes about 4-6 hours well thats how long it took me the first time and didn't know a thing about a diesel. and no shouldn't be leaking coolant unless head gasket bad

 

Test the EGR cooler when you remove it during the delete process. It would be good to know if it is leaking or not.

 

I don't see it leaking anywhere, you can see the level getting lower and lower in the reservoir...............does it fluctuate through the reservoir?

 

You won't actually see the cooler it leaking, unless you see coolant in the intake manifold under the EGR valve. You can have an EGR cooler leak and not see this coolant, so that visual test isn't 100%.

The failure is for coolant to leak into the gas recirculation path OR to leak combustion gas into the coolant system (and pressure it up to the point that gas and coolant leaks out from the degas cap). The test I was referencing is to pressure test the cooler after it is removed - this is the best way to confirm that it was an EGR cooler issue vs a head gasket issue.
