Default Fuel Gauge Problems on F250 7.3

I recently picked up a 2002 F250 7.3L Crew Cab, the truck has a complete Irate Diesel Fuel System with “Every Last Drop” Sump Kit attached underneath the middle of the tank.

So my issue is that my fuel gauge doesn’t work…

The previous owner told me that when the shop installed the Irate Diesel System they broke the Fuel Sending unit. But the truck has a lot of miles on it, so it’s possible the sending unit failed on its own as well.

I was thinking of replacing the Fuel Sending Unit but I was surprised to find that the Fuel Sending Unit & the Fuel pump are one unit and they are pretty expensive….

I don’t entirely understand the mechanics behind this upgraded system… So when you install a after market fuel system like mine do you eliminate the in-tank fuel pump? Or is it still part of the fuel supply system?

Or do you un-plug the in-tank Fuel Sending Unit/ Pump & bung the two fuel lines, because about mid-way down the length of the tank I noticed a plug that wasn’t connected, and after looking online it appears to be the small circular plug of the Sending Unit/ Pump. So I tried to plug it back in and turned the truck on & no change on the fuel gauge… Do you have to cycle the ignition to get it working again?

Or do ya all have any other solutions for my problem? Can I just get some other basic Fuel Sending unit without a pump on it?
