This is why you change it. Looks like a good place for it to break to me . $5 well spent

 

Everyone I've ever pulled looked that way. The good news it it's a ratcheting mechanism so even if the spring breaks the chain would have to stretch enough to jump teeth and this would take a very long time. Good $5 maintenance part.
