Default New guy with New To Me 2003 7.3

Just got a 2003 CCSB yesterday, been eyeing it for a while now. It in good shape has about 232k on it. Other than a super chips tuner and head unit, its completely stock.

I want to add some power. Looking at a cold air intake and exhaust, delete everything. If they don't do much for power,it will help with EGTs. Looking for advice here, what s the best way to go?

It needs gauges, there is nothing there. I don't want to have a gauge pillar, I had one in my old Cummins and it wasn't bad,but want something cleaner. I had an edge evolution in an F150 years ago and liked it for the display, didn't like the performance out of it, but I know gassers are not as responsive to tunes like diesels are. Have no idea on stacking tuners, and if there is a tuner that is better than another that has no gauges,i have no problem with getting both.

It is an automatic, anything that can be done here? VB, torque converter upgrade? Possibly a better cooler with a deep pan? Of course reliability is king here.

I have considered a turbo upgrade as well. I don't want to go so big I need to rebuild, but a bit more power really. I have looked at the wicked wheel upgrade, not sure if that is a step up or better off going with a bigger turbo altogether.

It's a family hauler, woods truck, and DD, so down time to a minimum, and must be reliable. I don't plan on racing, sleds, or pulling a trailer of any significant weight anytime soon (trailer within a couple thousand lbs at most).

Truck will get a level, maybe 3 inch lift at most, and bigger tires. Overall a relatively stock truck, especially considering some here.

Thanks fellas

i would start with gauges, and i would only run isspros. they make pods that go over the rear view mirror or under the dash if you dont like the pillar pod.

as for intake and exhaust i would either run an AFE or a DIY set up for intake and exhaust i would run whatever is cheapest.

the edge is garbage on a powerstroke. i would run a hydra or a TS with custom tuning. the hydra is a little more money but well worth the cost.

if you are wanting to keep it reliable i would stay with just a chip or if you wanted more power i wouldnt go over about a 160/80 injector. you dont need a turbo till you add injectors and even then you can get by without one.

After looking at it, I am quite interested in the DP Tuner's, but looking at like an edge insight for my gauges, not necessarily that particular one, but an idea like that. Hoping that can monitor more than a standard 3 gauge as needed like fuel pressure and tranny temperature

Exhaust I can definitely do quite inexpensively, what about for an intake? Definitely want to avoid the K&N set up.

whatever you do do not get a DP, worst tuner out there. if you feel like spending a ton on the edge to monitor things go ahead, i prefer gauges. either an AFE or a DIY setup with a 6637 filter

TS, that's what I meant, I was reading about the DP at the time. I like the options there with the DP. I have read mixed reviews on it though. Just curious, what makes it so bad? The Hydra looks really good too!

I am using edge as am example, I know other companies make the same idea. Bulky dog, Banks, just for example. It doesn't have to be a high dollar unit or even have tunes. I don't know what others are out there, but having the ability to watch other parameters isn't ever a bad thing either.

Looking into DIY intake now

I would recommend the hydra over the TS. The TS is cheaper but the tunes that come with it are not that great and after you pay for some good custom tunes your almost at the price of a hydra and the hydra comes with PHP's tuning library for free.

Look up DP and 80e. It is the single worst tunes ever made for the powerstroke. DP is responsible for more blown up powerstrokes than every other tuner combined.

Hydra wins, you're exactly right, with the custom tunes I'm at the same price and all the tunes instead of just 6.

I am going to try to sell the Superchips to just not have it sit. And recoup from calipers that just failed.

your best bet would be to put it on craigslist or something like that
