Default 6.5 Power loss through the years...Where to start?

Hello all, I am new to the site and am looking for some advice. I have a 97 Chev 3/4T 6.5LTD, and have owned it since 2001. It has been a great famly owned vehicle with little problems through the years (did have to replace the PMD twice as well as the glow plugs). I have noticed it has lost some significant power over the 14 years since I have had it. It can still pull my 3500 lb boat over the mountains but not at the speed it used to when I first owned the truck. I would like to see what I can do to gain back some of the power it once had. Replaced the fuel filter recently and unfortunately that didn't return my truck to its glory years. Read a few threads on here recommending changing the injectors at 100k (still has same injectors at 172k). Is that a good place to start? Is there a test that can be conducted to see if the injectors are part of the cause? Thanks!

You can pull your injectors and get the pop tested. This will confirm they work properly and have the correct spray pattern. If you want to DIY you can get a decent tester for $150 or build one.

Injectors with new Bosch, delphi or stanadyne nozzles set to 2200 psi pop pressure will for sure have an effect-but you can't expect to get it all back.

Having TDCO set to the performance value of -1.50 to -1.94 does add some power also.

An aftermarket ECM tune will give you another kick in the pants provided you have free flowing exhaust.
