Could be PMD or IP?

Change to a known good remote PMD with heatsink,resistor and extension harness first since it's the cheapest test and everyone who owns an electronic IP should carry a spare PMD anyways so even if the IP is to blame the PMD money spent is not a waste.

it requires a scan tool that will at least display the TDCO value.
TDCO=timing top dead center offset(timing)

stock spec is:-0.25 to -0.75
performance spec is:-1.50 to -1.94

the negative(-) is important to see because it denotes advanced timing-no (-) beside the value means late timing.

If your scan tool only displays the value you will need to google:KOKO relearn and use that for the ECM to learn the location of the IP.
A snap on MT 2500 will display the TDCO value but you should enter the model year as 2000 no matter what year the truck is from 96 on.

If you have a scan tool that can initiate the TDCO relearn on it's own then follow it's procedure.

Carcode and AutoEnginuity are both laptop based scan tools that can initiate the TDCO relearn as well as GM's TechII.
