I have a 90 W 350 non intercooled 12 valve that i need to replace the head gasket and possibly a valve. Im planning on putting 50 hp injectors in at some point and intercooling it. would i be ok running head bolts over head studs? and a stock head? also what do you recomend for a head gasket kit? I was thinking about putting the injectors in with the head gasket when i do it.

If you care about your engine put a Cummins head gasket in. Studs are cheap insurance especially since the horsepower bug is quite contagious. I say just do it and not have to worry about it.

 

Agreed with above. $500 is cheap compared to another head gasket job.

Injectors are easy to do in comparison. In my opinion, make the engine safe for the power before adding more power.

 

so what im getting from this is that head studs will provide the clamping power needed to accommodate some 50 hp injectors with my stock head and aftermarket intercooler, rather than using head bolts?

Has anyone had the mighty diesel head bolts fail and wished they had their head studs? I have read a little and it sounds like most guys are able to get away with using the cheaper headbolts even in their high hp trucks. Thanks for the tips guys! I appreciate it!

also, what do you gain with heavier valve springs?

 

Heavier valve springs are needed if you install an engine brake, and they also let you spin the motor faster without having valve float.
