Just bought me a 1990 6.2L Sub V1500

I have a few different questions on it but instead of posting all them in one thread I decided to make a few different ones...I'm new to the forum so if this is a no-no please let me know.

My question here is about start up. Car started up fine before. Now I get a loud squeeling until it gets warmed up. I'm thinking no biggie, probably just belts?

Also, I noticed white smoke on startup. Only lasts about 30 seconds, if that...this is my first diesel, is this normal? It's only on startup and I never notice any smoke, white or black, at any other time. Just the white smoke on startup.

Also another thing that is kind of weird is I get a "check engine light" on startup. However, I always let my truck warmup for a good 5 minutes before taking off. If I shut her down and start her back up almost always the check engine light goes away....whats up with that?


Also, like I previously stated, I am new to this forum so any and all noob advice is appreciated. This is my first diesel as well. If any of you know of any other forums out there that'd be more specific to my vehicle all input is appreciated.

Sounds like belt needs tightened if its a v belt system a good gatorback belt will fix that as for white smoke sounds like needs glow plugs if your antifreeze isnt goin down
