I have a 2004, 5.9 cummins, check engine light came on and the engine started running rough, spitten & sputtering knocking it has even stalled. What would cause this?

 

Well, It could be a very dirty fuel filter, or water in your fuel. Where did you fill up last? I recently had the same issue after filling up at a Walmart station (Murphys I think its called). I went about a half mile before I had the same symtoms. I drained the filter canister (roadside) and installed my spare filter. I did see traces of water come out of the filter canister. I was able to make back home but it sputtered a little bit, but not as bad. At home I drained the entire tank into several plastic fuel containers, and found additional traces of water in the fuel. That whole day SUCKED!!! I will never fuel up at a Walmart (Murphys) station. Just tossing it out there bro.

 

Thx for that. Mine has brought up a code. I checked filter for water, no evidence of water!
