Default 1989 turbo swap

i am looking into putting a hx35 turbo or hx40 on my 1989 first gen. How hard is it, do i need to swap the 2-gen manifold as well, would i have to worry about boost levels with the hx35 or hx40 turbo. just looking for more power on top of my other mods to burn more fuel.

Only gain is probably less turbo lag, its not hard to do just have to be cautious and pre lube the turbo bearings. I dont think you need to change out the manifold but I could be wrong.

if i remember correctly the hx35 will bolt right on and you can just replace the h1c with it but the hx40 has a different manifold size or something.
