Default First idi!

Hey guys, I'm probably going to be getting a 1994 f250 7.3 IDI 4x4 pretty soon! It's 4x4 and has the auto trans replaced a few years ago, it's a little beat up because he used it around the farm a bit, but there is no visible rust which is a rarity here in oklahoma. Not sure how many miles it has yet, but I love the obs, however I've grown up on powerstrokes and am not too knowledgable about the 7.3 IDI. So I could use some edumacation from anyone willing. It's only 1 grand so that's a big plus, all it needs is a headlight and a grill and then it will be street legal, I'd post a pic if I knew how but anyhow tell me what you all think, and I'd really like to know how to get good mpg out of it while hauling 10,000+ pounds on the occasion. Thanks y'all!

These trucks won't like pulling that much weight .... And if you value the transmission at all you won't even try doing that ........

Well it has the 4.10 gears and basically a bulletproofed tranny, but what could I do to it to make it want to?

the e40 is a POS slush box ... unless built to handle bug power ... they R junk ....

I have had many of them and they all suck ... no doubt about it

if you had a 4 spd. no problem .. I towed 15K and it wasn't too bad ... just not regularly ...

That being said these engines don't like to be bogged down ... they need to be spinning like 3K to really make any good usable power while towing ... something to keep in mind .... you wont blow it up .. not lilke a big truck ... run the crap out of it and you will be just fine ....

I have a 4 spd and run mine to 3 even 3400 then shift..

If the transmission has been beefed up, occasional heavy hauling wont kill it. These motors don't make the power the strokes are known for but will still move a load, just not as fast. I've grossed near 20k several times without issue and some people have gone over 30k without a turbo...although I think 45mph was the fastest he could go.
