I am looking to grind my fuelplate down to a zero or flat and was wondering if this will affect the motor performance or cause excessive smoke. i drive a 97 ram 2500 12 valve. also if i do this and get an adjustible turbo conrtol elbow thing how would that affect it. Any advise is helpful.

yes it will smoke more yes it will be a factor in drivability, yes you will gain HP, it is called a boost elbow

advise is go for it, you have to start somewhere.

 

I would recommend that u get gauges first but that's just my opinion

That said, unless you've gone into the pump (rack plug, etc, which it doesn't sound like you have) and you intend to grind your plate flat (irreversible), my advice would be to slide it all the way forward and drive it for awhile. Then just take it out. If you don't like it, put it back in and do some research on what profile to grind that will give you the compromise between the two extremes you'll have now experienced. It's easy to take out, easy to put back. Not so easy to un-grind.

 

i second this^ i just took my plate out and did a boost elbow when i first got my truck. also did the afc mods aswell. makes a world of difference but you gotta have those gauges installed or else you may just have a bad day.

 

All the above ... Blown Head Gaskets to boot ... have one for proof ...

 

...and I hope your tranny is good because it wont be after a week

 

good point. i did my afc mods and removed the fuel plate, after that i did comp DVs and the tranny was toast after a rebuild 13k before. the trannys just dont hold up at all until you build them. great advice. plus its really spendy!

 

First you should get your gauges and yes it will blow out more black smoke. You should also do your starwheel depending on your power gain.
