i am wondering how i can check the turbo and also is there a way to hook up a aftermarket temp guage ? i am sure the guages are not working on the dash and i think the truck is getting hotter than the gauages read . any help with this truck would help im new to the ford diesels owned dodge and chevy but this is a bit diff

 

check your turbo for what exactly

 

To see if its working directly I checked for play and it seems good no play and it spins when the truck is running but when driving and under heavy load you don't hear or feel it working

 

On a factory setup, you wont really hear the turbo at all. You really have to open the intake and exhaust if you want to hear any kind of whistle. The standard turbo's on these trucks don't really build boost quick enough for a seat of the pant kind of feel. I really only notice on hills and such when I don't have to downshift as the boost holds me up. You may also want to check for exhaust leaks around the u-pipe and the manifolds. Occasionally the exhaust manifolds themselves have been known to crack. I picked up 2psi from replacing a manifold and cleaning the u-pipe connections on my truck.
