Default 250-350hp easy build DOs and DONTs?

Ive got my 95 auto 2wd toy that id like to just build the taddest of a bit. not crazy fast. just sound nice and perform decent. exhaust is on the way, fuel plate is ground, afc modded, stock hx35 with wastegate set a bit heavier. What would you fellas suggest to get about 300hp out of it. would love to not do tranny work right now but I know it'll be on my to do list.
Thanks!

Yes, a GOOD converter and GOOD valve body setup are a must. The input shafts on those are a very weak spot. Much more power than that and you'll want a billet input shaft.
