A few months back the family and I went on a trip to Virginia City and I noticed that once I got above 2,000 ft elevation my 1993 smoked out the exhaust, no biggie but my question is every once in a while it puffed way darker, pure black smoke. Could that be and injector starting to stick open?

 

run some atf through your fuel ... use about 1 qt on first fill up ... 1/2 after that ... works better than any injector cleaner i have ever used ... been doing it for 5 yrs now

 

Ok I'll try that, just so happens I put about half a quart in each tank yesterday on my way home. Normally I put in either cheapest oil I can find or some 2 stroke oil. Usually half a quart in each tank. :coal

 

dont run 2 stroke oil in an idi , it makes the fuel burn faster and that coukd actually be a harmful thing, it will make it run like junk. .... ask me who I know that .... it was the only time my truck needed a tow truck in 5yrs ...... just stick with atf .... safe enough to run.each tank ....... just make sure u run it down before u fill up each time so ur not loading up in atf .... some times I skip 1 tank just cause
