New Cummins, What next?
Ok, I have a 97 Cummins with an Automatic, The transmission seems to be in good shape. The last time it was gone through was 155,000 miles and everything was good. The previous owner bought it with 155,000 had it gone through and it checked out fine. I purchased the truck with 198,000 in January of this year. The guy before me just used it to tow his bumper pull camper on camping trips to the coast and up to Oregon now and then he only put 50,000 or so on it the entire time he owned it. I bought it bone stock. He believed it had a chip in it because it had a shortened exhaust! haha, anyways all ive done to it since is put a 4 inch turbo back exhaust on it, pulled the stock air box and put a cone filter on the end. An adjustable boost elbow, pillar gauges (Boost, EGT, and Trans Temp) and cranked the star wheel forward. Im wondering whats the next step. Should the truck "technically" of had a rebuilt trans already? Should my next step be a upgraded torque convertor before I start giving it more fuel. I appreciate any questions or comments. Thanks.
We'll one day I'd like to see 500 HP but who knows. Right now I'm just trying to get a little more out of it. I keep hearing +/- to sliding the plate up on a stock tranny. I'd really hate to go through the tranny and be without a truck until I can scrape up money for a new one. So as it sits now tranny is the next step. Thinking of just doing a beefed up TC
Well sliding the stock plate up isn't going to kill your trans. Usually guys as myself would grind it and slide it. That will eat your trans alive. If your looking for 500hp best bet triple tc valve body billet input for insurance. That's minimum. But if your in there do billet servos and accumulator
