Question New to the Commin rail

The 47re in my 01 went out for the 3rd time last week so I said NO MORE. I found a great deal on an 06 Mega with a manual BONE STOCK. With just buying it I am on a LIMITED budget so I don't want to waste money on trial and error. Other than boost and EGTs (no brainer) what gauges do you recommned, programer, exhaust ect...? I live in Salt Lake and the exhaust will have to have the same TYPE of emissions equipment if I upgrade. In other words it will have to have a Cat and a muffler. Other than that there are no restrictions here.

Fuel rail pressure is a good gauge to have. Smarty or EFI tuning. I would leave exhaust alone since you are restricted. Its four inch from factory. You could add a tip if you are wanting to dress it up some. If it has the stock clutch youll probably wana ditch that thing and get away from the dual mass flywheel setup. The big thing is keep up with service on your transmission. The g56 can give problems. Check out http://www.carbonitecummins.com/Docu...Comparison.pdf This will give you some insight in fluid selection. Im not a fan of using atf +4 in the g.

From what I have heard the muffler on the 06 is very restrictive? I was running an edge w/attitude on my 01 and loved it. Would you recommend one of those?

Efi is hands down the way to go for tuning. Rail press is nice if you know what is going on with rail press. Not a must have tho. I would do a cat back exhaust. As said before ditch the stock clutch first thing.

I have been tuning with efi since 08. Let me know if I can help.

Sent with a Droid RAZR in one hand and 14,000 volts in the other.

EFI is the best way to go but if you need an all in one the edge juice w/attitude is a great all in one especially if cash is an issue. You definitely want to monitor your essentials so if it's efi and no gauges or edge with build in gauges I think it's a no brainer.

oh and get at least a cat back.

EFI with gauges is very close to the same price as the juice with the CS and the autocal will do all of the diagnostics that the edge will plus it will data log

Only thing I know about stock mufflers is the bang they make when being tossed into the junk pile. The aftermarket ones like mbrp and the like are a straight through design deff. very little restriction but, idk how beneficial it would be with the cat up there still restricting flow. You might would notice a little better exhaust tone I guess. Not a fan of edge on the cr but, you do get an all in one package gauges and tuner in one buy.

My '07 came from TX with an Aeroturbine, sans the cat when I bought it. The libtards in power around here have been threatening to expand emissions testing for the past few years. Fortunately they don't seem have the money or backing to pull it off, so far.

In any event, I decided to go ahead and get a used cat (bought it from someone on here, IIRC), in case I ever need it. Should that sad time ever come, I plan to gut it before welding it back into the stock location to satisfy the emissions testers.
