First mod ideas
Hey guys, just had a few questions on some things i wanted to do to my new truck, i just bought it about 2 weeks ago. its a 97 f350 regular cab with a 7.3 powerstroke. shes got 200k on her. I was wondering if anyone knew a good exhaust to run thats not straight piped because i havent decided if thats too obnoxious for me or not yet, it is my every day driver so i dont think i want to go that loud but i havent decided.i was thinking about leaving the stock piping on there and either deleting my cat and leaving the muffler or just deleting everything. i also want to do the napa 6637 mod that ive been reading about, is it as simple as the 6637 filter and a piece of 4 inch pipe and done? also will this make my turbo louder if im running stock exhaust?
sorry for all the questions all at once, im a first time diesel owner and just wanna get some sound of the truck and mod some things. im loving the truck so far its been really great. thanks in advance for the help its appreciated

exhaust can get spendy, but the air filter is just as easy as it sounds, on my 97, i just got a 4in exhaust pipe, bent at 45degrees, went from the stock air tube to the filter using that, Pic on my profile if you want to check it out.

I kinda figured exhaust would get expensive fast, so i thought about doing just a piece of pipe in place of the cat or muffler. the stock pipe size is 3.5 inch right? Inside Diameter?

down pipe and exhaust 4 inch back MBRP was no more than 400 on my 96. the first mod I would do is down pipe

and yes..... you hear a small amount of turbo whistle from the 6637.

I did my 6637 first week I got mine. I just used a 45 deg. ABS fitting and cut it with a sawzall, ground off the burrs and beveled the pipe to fit in the existing balck boot. And used a 3" rubber plumbing fitting to fit to the filter. Don't worry about the temp sensor, just leave it on the side or tie it up out of the way. it definitely makes a difference in turbo sound!
My first mod because it was so cheap. I got the filter at Fleetfilters.
Second mod should be downpipe and exhaust, then gauges to monitor EGT's, boost, tranny temp or whatever but a pyro gauge before the chip.
A chip shoud be the third mod IMO. Preferably custom tuned to the previous mods you have done. Some people will reburn your chip for cost or for free with future mods.
Enjoy your new truck!
