I don't know if it is fully engaging, once it started making noise i switched it back to 2wd.

Is it a constant grinding noise when you let of the clutch? It maybe a t case issue.

yes it is constant, and sounds like it gets worse as I let off more, also, i tried 4 low. i noticed that it doesn't make noise as soon as i put pressure on it. the truck will slightly start to move then it starts.

Can you put all 4 corners on jack stands or at least the front and mess around with the front drive shaft? I would try to get all 4 up in the air and have a friend try to put it in 4 wheel drive and try to locate the issue.

Check the fluid for metal shavings. Sounds like a locking issue where as ypu said causing it to not fully engage.
