It is defiantly not a "must". Take your intercooler boot off and see how much oil is in there and you decide wether it is needed or not.

Definitely re route the PCV to stop running oily air into the turbo and intercooler system. After awhile it causes oil to collect in the intercooler leading to cooling issues for the charged air system. It also softens the intercooler boots casuing them to possinbly blow off and or rupture

easy fix, get a kodiak lbz turbo mouth peice, then get a piece of flexible toobing, connect it up to ur pcv, run it down the driver side of the eng to a catch can or if u dont mind oil on ur drive way let it just drip.
