1999 GMC 3500 w/cummings gearing question
OK, so i just bought a 1999 Quad Cab long bed GMC with a cummings 12v and a NV4500 tranny. It has a six inch lift and 37 Procomps on it. I drove it back from ohio and i got about 16.5mpg.
I'm relatively certain it has a 4.10 gear ratio in its D60 single rear wheel rear end.
I want to maximize fuel economy. Here is what I'm thinking:
Remove 6 inch lift.
Remove huge ******* tires
Install Dana 70-6HD (i know its a dually) rear end w/ 3.07 gear ratio.
Change to 235/85/16 tires.
My question is this can i change the front gear ratio that low.
Also, will it be geared to high for signifigant towing?
Thanks for you thoughts
