I bought a 1987 Ford F250 Diesel with no bed on it, just the frame, not flat or nothing. I noticed the the rear bolts are really long... I was wondering if this was a dually at one time? It has dual tanks and the rear fuel port seems to be longer than the forward one, which makes me to also believe it was a dually, as duallys of this year have the rear fuel port in the rear dually fender.

I did a VIN search on it and it indicates nothing about being a dually. I did another VIN on a F250 Dually and it doesn't indicate it was a dually either. So I'm not sure how to find this information out.

I have been doing some reading, and it would seem that I could put duallys on it as this year (I could be mistaken) shares the same rear end as a dually.

I would appreciate any information one could give on this. I would like to put duallys on it for towing purposes.

Supposing I could run duallys, what size would I put on it? Have a link to buy some?

in dodges from 1994-2002 they are Chad, before and after (1st and 3rd gen) those years 1 ton SRW trucks could be bought.......the biggest difference between the 2500 and 3500 trucks was the rear end and a few leaf springs in the 2nd gen trucks, now, the automatic 2500's got dana 70's and the 5 speed 2500's got the dana 80, which if i am right was actually a 70/80 hybrid, and the duallys got a true dana 80 in the rear.......there was a cab and chassis 80 available also in 3500HD trucks.....

if the gas filler on the rear tank is longer than normal it was most likely a dually....in the late 80's ford built some F250 dually's not many, but some were built, there was even some 4x4 F250 dually's built with a TTB dana 50 front dually axle, there used to be a blue one that ran around near my college in lima ohio and another that set on a car lot for a while.....another question, are the rear tires duals????

 

So the extra long fuel nozzle on the rear is the only indication of dually? Is there a Ford equivalent VIN lookup, like there is with the Dodge?

I ran a few trucks; duallys, 2WD and 4WD. None of the VIN searches revealed whether a truck was a dually or not. The GVWR rating for Duallys and non-Duallys are the same, within the same class such as F250.

So I'm back to the original question.

How do I know if my truck was a dually?

Evidence thus far...

Seemingly extra long wheel bolts.

Rear fuel tube longer than front fuel tube.

The truck did not come with a bed of any kind so I do not have that as an indicator. Which would have been the main indicator I guess.

Also, what size duallys would I put on my 1987 Ford F250?
