I just scored a trailer for $40!!!
Title says it all!! Already done: New wiring harness, add lighting and license plate bracket, cleaned out brush and washed, bought tool box to mount on side, greased jack, and a few other things I probably forgot.
To do: Black paint job, used tires, rhino liner on floor, air tank mounted on passenger side, mount tool box on driver side, build and install ramp system, and more stuff I probably forgot to.
Got pics though!

Sweet!!! Thanks everyone!! I do not plan on paint yet, that will be later in the process. I appreciate the help from someone that actually uses it though! I plan on mounting that toolbox first, then mounting the air tank at the base of the rail on the other side towards the front between the fender and the front corner. I am going to use the photo bucket editor on my account there and try to make something that will give you and me a general idea of what it would look like. Postin' again in a few minutes!

AFTER PAINT.
Sweet paint and trailer man!!! I plan on doing a 1 piece diamond plate ramp that will slide out of the back from directly under the floor like you see on the big trucks and uhaul trucks.
Here is an example picture of what I am thinking, but mine will be a 4 foot wide 1 piece ramp for loading our riding mower, furniture, small round bales of hay, etc.

I have a question about the wheels and axle though. I want everyone to loook at the picture of the underside showing the wiring setup I have. If you look at it carefully, you can clearly see that the main tube that is the tongue is bolted into the yoke looking thing in the center. I to thought those were vw wheels, but I wonder if the previous owner that built this back in the 70s got a car axle and took out one of the differential gears so the yoke would not turn, or if this is an older trailer axle with a weird hump in the middle that was an old style lubrication setup. Does anyone know which?

Great news!! See those trailer house U bolts for that suspension I posted a picture of?? Well, I found more ubolts that I will be utilizing as tie down points that I got for free!!!

Please re-do the wiring, that is probably the worst I've seen in a long time. Rule number one, NEVER EVER use Scotchlocks in mobile wiring. The vibration and movement ends up cutting the wires and there is no way to seal out moisture, so they corrode very fast. I prefer crimp and seal heat shrink butt connectors and then heat shrink over that. Along with shielded wire of higher quality than that flat four wire cheap junk. Do it right once or you'll always be fixing it.
I do plan on upgrading the wiring system later, I just have those on there to test the lights and get past registration so I can get plates for this thing. This is really still in the fix er up phase. This will be used mostly for hauling trash about once a month to the dump about 20 minutes from my home, so I really just need enough to get it past inspection. I will be replacing the harness with a real one soon though. On the other side of the coin, the trailer did have a 6 way round plug in it underneath all that brush that was in it with about a foot of wires already hanging out of it that were still good and in tact, so I installed that and it worked!!!
I did get her painted over the weekend though!! I really just did a brush and roller job because my trusty paint gun decided to die on me, but it came out alot better than I thought it would. Sadly, some pigeon conveniantly took a crap on it while it was still drying, so it now has a ton of wrinkles and goop on the fenders that feel like half dryed plato
The trailer itself was all painted enamel black, and the wheels and hubs were painted metallic silver with a rattle can. The new paint on it is not geourgous because I could not sand that lead paint, but it does look better than before. Looks pretty descent for a paint job that cost me less than 10 bucks. Yeah, you read it right!! My dad bought the black enamel paint for me, and I paid for the rattle cans. I also got some chain out of my shop junk bucket that I will be using as safety chian. It is quite heavy, and it has to be rated for atleast 3,000 pounds. I managed to get one safety chain hook rated for 3800 pounds for $4.99 lowes, but it was the last one and I am going back sometime this week to buy the other one.
Will try to get pics of the new paint job!!

The tongue looks like it would be weak where the 2 vertical pieces are, a couple little pieces of plate welded in there to box it in would fix that.
