I got a buddy with a 99 f350 6 speed. Ive talked him into turning it into a performance truck. Were wondering what the best tuner/chip/programmer to get. Ive read alot of good on the edge evolution cs and cts. Havent heard much good from the others except dp tuner.

Hes fixing to get S&B C.A.I. And a CFM+ intake manifold. Next after that woll probably come studs and head gasket.

Im a Cummins freak myself, but i dont mind workin on an ole 7.3. Ive finally brought some one else into the world of performance diesel, and i want to help him with his build. I told him i would ask around about tuners.

There is no best, every pickup likes different tuners. Some he can choose from are gear head, swamps, PHP, DI, beans

 

Skip the CFM intake, unless he wants to **** away $400 bucks. Intake is fine. He is worlds away from needing studs, would not mess with studs until he is about 180cc injectors or about 400-450hp.

Skip the Edge units, worthless on a 7.3.

Any tuner that burns on a TS based chip will be your best bet. One's listed above are all great.

 

Preciate the info! Were not looking for any precise tuning programmer, were not that meticulous, yet! We just want something to wake up up and give er some get up and go!!

 

Again, I would skip any "programer" like edge or superchips. A TS chip is just worlds better in every respect.

go with 5 pos chip edge isnt terrible if you just want a stock truck but go with a 5 pos chip if you want the most out of your truck i made the mistake when i bought my edge i never wanted to keep my truck stock

 

If you go with a programmer; you will definitely be sorry you did. I like the TS chips. I currently have PHP tunes and have some Beans tunes getting made for me. Just going through my exploration stage.
I really like the PHP tunes, but I am working on fine tuning my custom tunes for current mods.

As stated; there is no best. The different guys that tune the ts chips are somewhat similar, but have slightly different tuning styles. They will ea have slightly different driving characteristics. Any of the above mentioned will make you happy. Best of luck
