well i was just looking at the price i can get the planet drive with out hose pump which i already have and with out a tank for like $800 the vegie-stroke which i asume is priced the same as the vegie-ram which you cant even get right now is almost three grand so if you have absolutely no idea what you are doing the vegie ram is the way to go but if you want to save a few bucks and and build one yourself i supose the planet drive. that was my thinking but i havent actually seen either just photos on thier website thats why i was asking to get some feedback from people that have delt with the different kits out their.

Well my expensive diesel motor didn't seem like a good place to experiment. As soon as I saw PLANT drive (not Planet) used copper heat exchangers I gave up right there.

What's the point in buying anything from plant drive if you're going to do it yourself, most of the bag-o-parts they sell you can be had anywhere, without their mark up attached.

What are you going to use for a tank? How are you going to keep the fuel systems separate? What pump are you planning on using? How are you going to heat the oil? Plant drive just seems like a joke to me. At least look around at the other options. Frybrid has some decent things, but their customer service is non-existant, and good luck getting anything you ordered.

I know a while back a few guys tried getting info from Plant Drive about their 6.4 system... they never gave us any of the answers we were looking for.

What are you getting for that $800? Do you even know?

Yeah this was only a month or two ago we were in contact trying to get info about the 6.4. He was real helpful until we asked some technical questions about keeping the fuels separate, then nothing. He seemed pretty knowledgable, but it wasn't enough to make me buy a system.

I was on their site yesterday, I still see the same system listed as working on the 7.3/6.0/6.4... if you know anything about these fuel systems on those three trucks you'll know one system isn't going to work on each one.

So again, what are you going to use for a tank and a pump? What comes with the "kit" for $800? You really need to plan this whole system out before jumping in. At least if you have some sort of a parts list to start with we can help you from there.

We haven't even touched on how you're going to filter the oil, do you have plans for that yet? That's usually where I tell people to start. Build something and start collecting/filtering. This will do a few things for you. It will tell you if you have the patience for this before investing money into a "system" for the truck. If you decide you don't like it you can usually just re-sell the filtration pieces and be out just some time and a little money and save yourself the headache. If you do like it and think you can handle it, then good, continue filtering and experimenting, that way when you do finally convert your truck you've got a stock pile of oil ready to burn.

I'm not trying to sound like a jerk here, just trying to make sure you know what you're getting yourself in to. Do a LOT of research. I researched for more than a year before building my first filtration system. I filtered and collected oil for probably another year for myself and a buddy before finally putting the cash down on a system for my truck. I'm glad I did it the way I did. I knew exactly what I was getting in to. My filtration stand has changed a few times now, and I'm now revamping my entire vegistroke and making my own upgrades to it.

Are you ok with running a manual system? Remembering to shut it off a few miles before your destination and purging properly? Watching temps/pressures like a hawk? I like that my system does everything for me (still watch temp and pressure like a hawk though). I like the fact that my gf can jump in my truck and drive across the state on WVO without having to worry about temps or switches or shutdowns and purges.

I hear you about the collecting my plan was to start colecting before i even touched my truck to make sure u could get a good stock pile. My plan for filtration was to let it sit in the jugs for a few weeks to let the big stuff settle and then heat it and filter it through some sort of screen and then as a final step use a diesel craft centrifuge filter maybey even run it through the diesel craft twice.

As for my truck i am puting a airdog pump and filter that will save me $500 off the kit since the normal price of the kit is i think $1300 or so and then i was ganna use thier 2 stage heated filter/water seperator use 3 of thier 3 way valves the 3rd one is to un loop the veg for fast purge time and then use thier NADA controler which wont alow you to start useing veg until it is heated it has a sensor it also alows you to set a predeterminde time for purging so you flip the switch and after however long you set it for you can shut your truck down with out a buzzer going off and then to heat the veg on the way to the engine the include a 26 plate stanless heat exchanger and show you how to build hose on hose to heat the veg with the engines coolant.

For the tank i was going to rig some thing simple up until i get my long bed conversion then i am going to get one of those tank/toolboxes

they have a controller that is $500 that makes the hole system idiot proof so anybody could drive it. But yes i will definielty have temp and pressure gauges for the system. but first thing is first i have to get a steady supply of veg

i really apreciate your insite helps bring a gunhoe guy back to the ground

Which airdog pump you looking at? You may want to talk to Airdog about what pump to use, since some of their pumps may not be rated for WVO, especially heated WVO. The first generation FASS pumps used on the vegistrokes were right at their design limits as far as pressure and heat, and there were failures. The pumps have since been upgraded now 2x since then. I've got the latest version, and you can also purchase those pumps separately through BFT too, just something to think about. The latest and greatest is the Scorpion pump, designed specifically for WVO use and heat. Just giving you options at least. I know there are other pumps out there too, some will even warranty it when used with WVO as well, just another thing to think about.

I'm sending you a PM for a contact who I think you should do yourself the justice of at least calling, he's converted more Dodges than anyone I know and is a real cool guy to talk to. He drives a converted 12V himself. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Let him know you're looking at the Plant Drive setup yourself, and he will explain the differences as well.
