I have found a source for clean Veggie oil. The problem is I don't want to make major modifications to the truck because I take this truck on long trips and a service shop to be able to fix the truck easily on the road.

Is it possable to put veggie oil right into the fuel tank with diesel (during warm weather).

 

Anything is possible. You can put water in there too, but would you want to? NO. Do NOT DO THIS.

What truck is this on? If this is for your 05, check out www.biofuelstechnolgies.com they're looking for a quad cab dually 5.9 stock for a test bed for the revamped Vegi-ram. Is it major mods to the truck? Not really, maybe a couple wire splices and one or two fuel line changes. If anything ever happens with the system, you can revert back to stock by flipping a switch and just drive on diesel the entire way. That's the beauty of having a two-tank system. You say you want to avoid having any issues, but that's all you're going to have by running WVO in the main tank. Do NOT do this.

Do you have a method you're going to filter the oil with yet?

 

My plan is to let is separate, then screen the product. Then run through a Baldwin fuel filter.

From what I have read, Veggie oil is easier to filter than waste engine oil because of the lack of metal in the Veggie oil.

I have done some reading on veggie oil but that is as far as my knowledge goes.

 

What do you mean by "screen"?

The two best ways to filter veggie oil: Heat/Settle, and in combination are a great way.

Lots of ways to "skin a cat" here. A lot will depend on your budget though. I will get pics of my filtration setup up shortly.

The ease of WVO filtration will greatly depend on the source in which it's coming from. I have some oil I get that I can only use maybe 1/2 of what I'm given, others, I can use 95% of it.

 

Where do you get your oil? I was thinking about possibly branching off into vegi but if i cant get a constant supply i dont think its worth it.

 

Pizza places, chinese places, any small diner, fairs over the summer, just think of any place that fries food. Once you find a bunch you can get picky with which ones you want. Problem is now when fuel goes up in price, the renderers are willing to pay the restaurants for it, so you might have to toss some money to the restaurant owners. Still a TON cheaper than fuel.

The most important thing in doing this is the quality of your oil before it goes in the truck. Starting with a cleaner oil up front (from the restaurant) makes your filtering easier. You need to dewater and filter the crud out, then once in the truck it needs to be in a two tank (heated tank) system, IMO.

 

You seem like you have your system working pretty good. If you could up load some pics of your setup (On the truck and filtration) it would help out a lot. If you already have can i get a link to the thread because i cant find it. Im very interested in doing this but this forum is the only thing helping me right now because i don't know anyone doing this or even thinking about it.



Economically speaking, i don't understand why more people aren't doing this.

I can get some pics of the setup, but there really isn't much to see other than the tank and the manifold, but I'll get some for you.

Economically speaking? Most people are scared by the price tag of the system, and it's one of those things you can only learn so much on the net, a lot of the knowledge comes from DOING, and it's a big commitment money wise if it doesn't work out. Good news is, it's easy to resell the stuff if you decide you don't want it now.

 

Veggy is great if a person really needs a hobbie.

on that 12v'r, I know guys that just pour it in the tank, but I prefer a 2 tank setup on any system.

 

I've seen a couple 12V's converted using a V3 system intended for a vegistroke, the swap over was quite simple.
