Default 2 stroke oil

I would like to know the purpose of adding 2 stroke oil to your diesel fuel and how much to add.

It is added to lubricate the fuel system as the new ULSD doesn't have the same lubricating properties of old Non-ULSD. Seems 1 Oz. per Gallon is a common mixture. I myself have never added, and never will either.
