Default promises, snake oil, and additives

I went to the Great American Truck Show (The Great American Trucking Show) Had a great time, there were lots of products promising better performance, less wear, better fuel mileage. If they all work as well as promised, my class 8 Freightliner should get 8-10 MPH and last forever. Presently I get about 6.5mpg. I've been doing this since 1974, seen all sorts of claims, as such I know the companies that are still around, Howes, Amsoil, Lucas, to name a few. A new name but old technology is Gamma 88. Ive done some research I have found a few references in WW2 articles mentioning Gamma 88, but nothing specific. I was wondering if anyone here has heard of or used it? Im not sure of the website, but google it and it should come up.

Since '74, wow. I started truckin in '68 so we are about on the sme page. If I were you, I think I would ask myself what kind of additives you have been running and what kind of success you have had.

Personally, when I only had one truck (12v71 Detroit) I would throw some ATF in it once in awhile. In '70 I put a driver on it and added nothing. In '72 the truck was sold with 310,000 miles, never had the valve covers off.

In '72 I switched to Cummins and eventually had 22 at one time. Never used any additive at any time because I could not rely on the driver's to put it in. I had four trucks that ran between WI. and MA. 12 months a year. On those units I insisted that Howe's be added during the winter months. Got out of the business in 1980 with 20 at that time. Averaged 390,000 between in frames, not too bad with hauling heavy and drivers.

I know times have changed but I thought I would pass this along.
