Yall r exactly right i use to work in the petroleum. Industry n i will b there first to tell u they r the same. Now when i used to getthe old industrial tanks i had to rebiuld that had old school high sulfur thats were the power came from. Used to fill up drums n take them home god i miss that

Heres the deal on and off road diesel are the same the only difference is the dye but however home heating oil is not the same it is not ultra low sulfar it has more cetane in it which is like octane to gas so there for home heating oil is the way to go atleast in the older trucks like 7.3 and 5.9 not so much in the newer trucks like 6.0 6.4 etc with home heating you get better fuel milage more power just dont get caught or it will cost you $$$$$

ive always heard it had more sulfer. the way I understood it is its a #2 diesel and not a #1like normal on road. but what are you guys talking about running trans fluid in your tank. i don't want to sound stupid but wouldn't that cost alot more or is that just an additive to make everything red. And have you ever heard of people running used motor oil.

At one time off road diesel did have a higher sulfur content but since late 2010 both off road and on road diesel are the same ULSD. As for heating oil in most areas of the country heating oil is #2 diesel.

I've heard people swear by atf or used motor oil as an additive to lube injectors and improve fuel economy. Newer emissions systems or injectors might not respond so well and the red color of atf could cause problems.

you are actually correct on the sulfur red fuel is about 30ppm I have a fried that has ran red fuel in his truck since new he has about 450k on it now and has never had any pump injector issues and for a 7.3 that is great to have that many miles and to have the injector pump fail

now if only there was a way to turn it back to green again.... who wants to figure something out and get rich with me? lol :humm:

On and off road diesel are the exact same thing except off road is dyed red :s:

i have heard of adding sulfuric acid to the fuel but i would never run that in my truck

also UV light/sun light is supposed to break down the dye. read it takes about a week sitting in the sun

for Solvent Red 164 (diesel dye) heating the fuel to 270F should boil it out

dont know what the boiling point of Solvent Red 26 (another diesel dye) is though

although this would probably negate the price difference
