Down here in New Mexico i've ran red fuel and nothing else for 6 years and havent got caught yet (knock on wood) we run it on the ranch and burn around 1500 gallons a month and the delivery guys say its the same thing as hiway, that they add the dye after they load it on the truck and that is comes out the same tank as the hiway fuel

we get home heating oil delivered here to my shop for heating purpuses and i do use it to top off my diesel forklift. asked the delivery driver one day. says on and off are same fuel, just dyed. home heating oil is still low sulfur by what he said.if thats true, no wunder the old forkilft hasnt had any fuel issues!

Have a friend down here in S. NM, he filled his PU with off road diesel when he was filling up his farm tractors, he was dipped and fined $10,000.

offroad diesel has a higher sulfer content then regular premium diesel. plus obviously its not taxed so no road use. although i have been known to pull up to the offroad diesel pump and just stick it in my filler neck, risky i know but they dont check alot here in michigan. its pretty much all i run in my truck, that or trans fluid :tu:

Trans fluid is a no no in a modern Cummins.

ive been told the fine can be up to 1000 dollars a GALLON, so for us long bed guys that could be up to a 35,000 dollar fine!

ive run it in my truck before and if the fuel prices keep goin up i will be again. when fuel was like 5.00 a gallon a few years ago my truck never saw the non-dyed fuel. its the exact same fuel though only dye in it. its ULSD too just with dye

The only difference is the color. If DOT catches you with it in a highway vehicle the fine can be in the thousands:scare2:

^Yep, it's just dyed to show that no taxes paid on it. I've had it mixed but that's just because I was running our off-road diesel when I ran it in the pasture before I put insurance on the truck. When I finally did put insurance on the truck so I could drive it on the hwy., I still had some off-road in it. That was several tanks ago, so all legal now.

ive never heard of them taking your truck, unless u refuse to let them dip your tank, then they will impound it. i got a friend that got fined 18k for running it in his beginning of 2010.
