Hy-gard in auto tranny?
I seen this JD Hy-gard hydraulic trans oil mentioned in another thread and somthing about using it in an auto tranny. so i did some searching on it and there is ALOT of people kicking around the idea but no one seems to have any real facts about it. It was mentioned somewhere that it could lower temps, drop converter stall, and reduce wear(i know everyone says that) also i heard that you have to use a screen type filter with it....im not a tranny guy by any means, so whats everyones take on this???

I've poured a lot of Hy-Guard in my 7 years of Deere experience, and my first thought on this idea is that Hy-Guard is thicker oil compared to ATF. The auto transmission we have in our equipment have suction screens, and a spin on filter. In warmer climates this may be something to try, but not in winter weather. There is also Low-Viscosity Hy-Guard that pours a little better. We use it in auto/power shift transmissions, and use regular Hy-Guard in final drives and other gear only applications.
