Default What oil?

I've got a 78 Chevy K20 w/ the SM465 4 speed trans. and the 205 case. I was wondering what oil to use in the trans. and transfer case?

Well the amsoil site says you need GL-5 rated oil in both the manual transmission and transfer case. 80W90 GL-5 should fit the bill.

http://www.amsoil.com/mygarage/Produ...0HD%20PICKUP+M

The site doesnt go back to 78 - just 1980 but I would think that the parts should be the same.

Does it have the cross over tube that they both share the same fluid?

I would highly recommend a synthetic oil, preferrably mobil ( 75-140 or 75-90 ) keeps the temps down good! but it all depends on how much you wanna $pend.

Is this the CENPECO website??

Cen-Pe-Co Lubricants Official Corporate Website

If so, I don't think I'd buy anything from them. That site looks like it was designed by a 3 year old. Poor design and IMHO, horrible looking. I'll do some surfing around to see what that oil is all about, but IMHO, you can't go wrong with Amsoil. They are the first in synthetics and have been around since 1972 and are VERY proven.

Cenpeco is used a bit in the racing world. It is a high paraffin containing oil so if you live in the northern tier states or north, performance can be an issue.
AMSOIL is only costly if you buy it in the WRONG place and don't use it like it's intended. Up front cost, yes, but long term saves money.

i live close to lake erie up north ive never had a problem with performance an what would that have to do with anything

Ya that would turn me away to they worry about there oil instead of flashy adv on there web page.

Straight from the web.

heres something i posted in another thread:
Well i have a 460 ford in peices in a barn been there for 6years an it wont collect dust were the oils been, got 2.5mpg better out of my dodge when i switched all the fluids over when i bought the truck, had a semi outside this past winter that wouldnt start dumped a half a quart of there fuel treatment in the fuel filter 2 cranks fired right up had an oliver with a 3208 cat that had a miss put a quart in the tank an a little in the filter no more miss. the oil has alot of cleaners in it when i first switched i had to change the oil filter after 1000 miles it cleans good. now i run 5 to 6k no problem could go longer but don't believe in that. o had to take a buddys 12v apart for the killer pin talked him into a cam that thing was spotless also had a buddys 6.5L all apart to rebuild an it was spotless. they have everything u can think of oil wise.
