I put ZMax in my truck about 6 months ago.The kit had oil and fuel treatment,said it was good for gas and diesel.Engine seemed to be slightly free er revving.Stock injectors crapped out a month later (450 000 kms) They were starting to go already tho.I thought the engine oil additive worked good, the fuel additive???IDK.

I also used ZMax years ago. I put it in our '84 Grand Marquis (302 throttle body injection). The car had a strange drive ability problem. On the freeway it would cut out at 70 - 75 MPH on a hill if it was in overdrive. A time or two I thought it was going to take the lid off the air cleaner it popped back through the intake so bad. The other way this showed up was it would cut out in town under real light throttle when you hit a certain kind of bump. Before ZMax, I could never figure out the problem or get it to go away.
I saw their infomercial and was laughing at them until the 'owner' got on and told about their guaranteed mileage increase. This was about 10 years ago and I don't remember what gas cost then. But if you got the guaranteed increase, it would pay for buying the product in the first place. I ordered some and put it in the car. Right away, I noticed the car seemed to have better power. I also noticed that the drive ability problems went away also. Then when I figured the mileage I got pleasant surprise. I'll be honest and I don't remember the numbers. If they guarantee a 10% increase then I got an honest 16 or 18%. I figured it was working since the car got around 15 MPG before. I also liked how it 'cured' the above stated problems. I want to say they said to put it in every 5,k miles. I did at first, but money being what it was I decided to wait after the second treatment. At just over 10,k miles my mileage dropped off again and it started to have some of the drive ability problems again. So I used it about every 10 - 12,k miles. It seemed to help that car.

Now, I also have an '82 Honda Silverwing. I tried it in it and didn't notice a thing. In all fairness I already used synthetics in it and premium gas. In the car I used regular old petroleum and low octane. I theorize that this ZMax made up the difference between the oils. I don't know. I also tried ZMax in the Int'l and didn't notice any change. I think that old girl just has a drinking problem and always will until I get the 5.9L in there!
I guess I would recommend ZMax to my friends here. Just be aware that it may not help your particular rig. If it's going to help you will know on that first full tank!

When I had access to a military tech library (Back in the late '80s...) I had tried Slick 50. I didn't notice any benefit what so ever so I decided to look up that mil spec they advertise on the bottle. It was for the very cheapest, non-detergent, straight 30W engine oil you can buy. That one quart was the only one I ever bought!

ZMax on the other hand, I used quite a few bottles of. I don't have that G. Marquis any more. When I sold it with 200,k on it; it ran just as good as it did when we bought it with 100,k on the clock. Since the stuff hasn't helped any of my other rigs, I just quite buying it too..... After the lawsuit (I got a check for about $2 out of the settlement!! :jump:) years ago, I have never bought any more. I would have to look into what they say about putting it in my diesel.... I am a little more picky with it.....

A 2002 Dodge Caravan with 3.3L engine, a 2005 Dodge 1500 4.7L engine. Being the 1500 was new I did not notice much mpg improvement but did get rid of a slight miss do to dirty injectors from poor gas. IIRC we did get 3-4 mpg increase in the Caravan and it also ran better. What I did was to make sure the engine had been run no less then 15 minutes at speeds above 35 mph to get it up to operating temp and then shut it off long enough to add zMax to oil and gas and then drove it non stop at Hwy speeds 55-65 MPH for 90 minutes to give it time to clean the fuel system.

Soaks into metal???

As far as I remember metal has a certain surface, it was called Tribology.There are some Universities just concentrating on that.

There is no soaking into metal. But there is sticking and covering onto the surface. To you remember honing? To achieve a sticky suface for lube oil?

I never looked into Duralube. Never tried it either. I think that was what a friend wanted me to try once.

Yeah, cohesion and adhesion sound about right here. There wouldn't be any soaking into except for a few microns near the surface since microscopically there are pits and other imperfections. Reminds me of that college class from Chevron about their Delo product line! I might have to look that book up . . . .

Trust me, I make no claims to know anything here but as far as soakin into the metal I have to believe it possible. Millco and a few others of ya have military time, remember those days when ya cleaned that rifle spotless for inspection and the next day it was filthy again all the sudden. cause that damn CLP/Breakfree did it's job to well and pulled carbon out of the pores and cracks.

Then you would get those assholes that would try the shortcuts and use brake or carb cleaner to clean the weapons and by the next day the metal would turn white and rust would set in if ya didn't lube em back up.

I am not trying to be a jerk here but anything and everything actually penetrates everything its just to some rate that is usually not noticed.

It is called diffusion. it happens with everything. think of a smell. thats pretty much how it works. if you spray wd40 you can smell it. because of diffusion. In metals it is just a slower rate of "soaking in."

I am a chemical engineering student trust me on this. We had like two weeks of class on diffusion.

and have you watched some of the videos about zmax? they are actually pretty interesting. it dissolves carbon directly in front of you and after a little while the metal looks like it is saturated or wet looking all over.

Due to the fact that metal IS porous things can fill the pours and "soak into" it... Well, not ALL metal. Stainless steel isn't porous..

I'm going to do an oil change tomorrow and give it a shot.. Ill give you my "seat of the pants" opinion. :yeah:
