I'm not seeing much change in people's driving habits. I've seen our neighbors pull their usual short trips - back from work, out to the store, back to drop off the groceries, back out to some kid's event... Rather than combining trips they will make lots of short hops in their SUV's, dragging the family with them - instead of driving a smaller vehicle for the work commute and picking up groceries on the way home. While bicycling over the weekend, I notice a ton of big-engine, gas-powered, one-passenger SUV's and trucks driving through the neighborhoods - with no qualms about accelerating all the way to the next stop sign. While spending a few extra dollars every time you fill up may not break the bank, the domestic demand for the fuel is staying pretty high and the supply isn't going up. We are going to have to change our driving habits and drill more.

I've cut my purchases of fuel substantially - I think I've spent $30 for gas on two motorcyces and one lawnmower! I do need to ride more...

This is scary:

I just checked my records and in October 2003 when oil was cheap and the canadian dollar was in the tank I paid $0.529 per Litre for Diesel. Now June 2008 (almost 5 years) canadian dollar is near par and oil is well crazy I'm paying $1.449 per litre? That's nearly 275% increase!

Rising worldwide demand vs. peaking worldwide daily production. It is NOT going to get better. ................... Bush is AGAIN calling for offshore/ANWAR drilling. Now watch the Democratic talking heads attack it. McCain SUPPORTS it and Obama is OPPOSED to it

This is the time to really push the issue. They really need to sell it as "Democrats want to raise fuel prices more" - folks will be feeling the pinch from the higher fuel prices and that sting will most likely affect their choices in November. If they lose the elections in November (a possibility), they can then remind everyone each time the price increases that the voters asked for it. If the economy crumbles because of it - they can remind the voters that they chose poorly. It's not possible to rationalize the objections to drilling when the price of oil has risen this far. Anybody preaching "No drilling" better be wearing their walking shoes.

Without a majority in Congress, there's not going to be a substantial change in anything. If we get a Democrat majority with a Democrat president - I don't think we are going to like the changes much. McCain may actually get some things done with a more moderate Congress - even if it is majority Democrat. A lot of old timers need to be voted out.

For Investors, Oil Boom Offers Plenty of Opportunity - Markets * US * News * Story - MSNBC.com

The seemingly endless surge in energy prices is lightening wallets at gas stations everywhere. But it's also a potential bonanza for investors who have a multitude of ways to play the astonishing bull market run.

I'm running our two Dodge 2500's on homemade biodiesel and WVO. A third "toy" truck will also be running the same juice. We've got two motorcycles and a lawnmower that are gas powered - but I'm looking for candidate diesels to swap into my wife's Dyna when her engine gives us the slightest sign of problems. The lawn mower may eventually get repowered with a diesel as well. My bike is a bit of a dilemma - it's not an easy diesel conversion. I may have to swap that one out eventually.

I am impacted slightly by the rising price of methanol - but as it is < 20% of the total liquid used in the production of biodiesel, it's nothing at all like the impact felt by using straight diesel.
