Depends on what kind of transformer it is. In most cases, the oil is mainly used for cooling.

Theres a bit of misinfo here - just because its transformer oil, doesnt necessarily mean that it contains PCBs. If its coming out of some old transformer, chances are that it could have PCB's. I work with transformer oil all the time and some of it is quite safe:

Toss a log chain over the lines to blow out the fuses and then it should be safe to tap into that free energy.

Well I got a line on a whole bunch of it, or at least can fill up periodically. This guy reclaims old transformers, has the oil (100% pure mineral oil) tested for PCB's, then loads up and ships out. He's even got a federal permit to burn it, so it has to be safe. It's too bad he thinned it out with diesel, cause I was wanting to know how mineral oil would run.

This will show you how flamible the oil is... Its just arcing and sparkin for the first secs, then whe the oil tank ruptures....
