Oil questions for Cummins ISC 8.3?
Hey Everyone,
I have purchased a rig with a 2002 Cummins 8.3 with about 170k miles on it.
I will not be putting many miles on it and it will be light/moderate duty highway miles. I will be surprised if I put more than 10k miles a year.
Recommended oil change interval is 6 months /15k miles.
I am reluctant to change oil at 6 month intervals when I am spending $250+ for an oil change (synthetic). If I wait for 15k miles that would stretch my time frame out to 18 months or so.
I am looking at an alternative. If I do my own oil changes @ 6 months regardless of mileage and use a less expensive CF-4 rated oil such as:
Milesyn SB 15w40 API CJ-4, Synthetic Blend Diesel Motor Oil, 5-Gallon Pail
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Miles-All...&wl13=&veh=sem
I can change oil & filter for less than $100. I understand that this oil is not likely of the same quality as the Rotella that I would typically use but wonder if, given the low miles I will be running, it would be a reasonable choice.
What do you all think?
Thanks.
