Currently I do not have a fuel pressure gauge. Who ever owned it before me did have an electrical one on it but cut the wire and removed the gauge from inside the cab. It still does have the sending unit mounted on top of the filter housing. I do know about 2 years ago both the LP and the VP were changed because I know the mechanic who ordered them for the previous owner. The guy who owned it before did the installs himself and had my friend get a stock LP again for the replacement. Also did I read somewhere in this thread that it would be ok to leave the stock filter in place and continue to use it along with the AirDog?

Sure.
The that way you keep the heater and your presure sensor in the canister lid.

Personally, I plan on bypassing the whole thing and using the 1/2" line that comes with the AD and going straight to the CP3. I figure it will eliminate several possible connections/parts that could cause a leak later on.

I'm a big fan of the KISS principle.
I don't think I need the heater. I don't know how cold it has to be to need the heater, but if it's that cold, what heats the fuel in the tank?

Nothing heats the fuel in the tank or else you would never have issues with gelling. Isnt the main reason it preheats the fuel is to make for easier starting? Otherwise I would think it is better if the fuel stays colder to help the VP on the 24valves cool, and doesnt colder diesel get better fuel economy? Because the hotter the diesel fuel is, the less dense it would be meaning less actual fuel actually being metered in by the injector pump as compared to colder fuel.

about 80% of the fuel being pumped from the lift pump isnt being used for combustion and is returned to the tank quite warm actually.......next time ya return from a lil trip feel the tank and you will get the drift there .....its warm.......that 80% return flow is there to supply cooling and lubrication to the IP

the fuel heater in the inlet filter is there to preheat the fuel and to keep it from gelling during initial startup

cool fuel would be better for combustion as well as econimics

The fact like you say 80% is returned back to the fuel tank and is picking up heat from the IP is the reason I never let my fuel tank go below 3/4 full if I can help it. I have gone with the theory that the more fuel is in the tank, especially during hot months the more fuel there is to dissepate the heat through out and help keep the IP running with as cool a fuel as possible. When I stated nothing heats the fuel in the tank, I meant there is no special heating system to heat just the tank fuel alone. So pretty much what Whitmore stated is what I had understood as well.

I just put on the AD 150. Went with the bigger pump for two reasons. I wanted to be assured no matter what mods I decide on, it can handle it and for the pickup tube. I also wanted to get away from any restrictions the factory lines & pickup have. With the half inch lines & fittings opening up your fuel flow, if you go back through the factory filter its going to restrict it. Theres a water separater and a 3 micron ff so the sensor isnt really needed. I was told that if you unplugged it and water got into the connection that the light would remain light, so either way make sure its still hooked up, even if you dont use it anymore.
