Just like it says, I have a Ford 8600 tractor that refuses to stay on. The previous owner installed an oil pressure gauge or something like that. Told me that you must keep the little button pushed in for about fifteen seconds after it cranks then let it go and she'll run. Well, for the first couple years it all worked good, then last year it started this, turn on then die, like it ran out of diesel, but it's got diesel in the tank. Any ideas? I'm pretty lost on this and need it to run.

 

I've got 2 possible solutions.1 their is something wrong with your fuel system either injectors are clogged or your lift pump is going out which is common on those, could be injection pump timing could be off as well.
If all that stuff checks out ok then its probably a compression issue.

First thing I would do is check the lift pump and its easy to replace.Unhook the lines and 2 9/16 nuts and its off.Oh and get rid of that stupid oil pressure switch and put the original sender in the block back in or whatever it takes just use the original sending units they rarely had problems.

 

sounds like a low oil pressure shut down switch, that is why you have to hold that button in to get it running, it is probably faulty, like the other response, replace the sender and you might have to trace out the wire to the fuel shutoff solenoid, it probably goes through the switch and would have to be spliced back together.
