you guys got a it made compared to when my grandpa was a kid and had to wear 4 layers just to harvest the crop in november

DuramaxBen 06-11-2008 09:27 PM

Yeah cabs are a wonderful thing.

Cumminscowboy_101 06-12-2008 04:02 AM

I beg to differ. I like the 4020. We have a similar model, a 4000, and use it EVERY day twice a day to feed cows with a TMR wagon. That tractor has hardly given us problems, I think it is a GREAT old time using tractor. I have to agree with McCall though. Them old Steigers do lack a litte bit in the cab. I loved the first 8410 I drove with a mini fridge in it!! Woot woot!!

MotorOilMcCall 06-12-2008 09:08 AM

LOL. A mini fridge? Are you kidding me? I mean I'll take a 6-pack out in a cooler with me, along with my lunch, but I don't have the luxury of a mini fridge. Even in the CAT there isn't enough room. Of course I keep all my tools in there so I can lock them up (Shovels, Picks, Blasting Caps), but there still isn't enough room without that crap for a fridge!

Maybe I need to start fabricating a panel to flush mount the fridge, and have the rest of it sticking out the cab. :c:

next there will be sleepers in the cab of the tractor so you can just stop driving when you get too tired and just go and sleep in the field and start back in the morning

MotorOilMcCall 06-13-2008 08:29 AM

If your field is that big, you need more tractors and more operators, lol.

Woody35 06-13-2008 10:20 AM

farms are getting to be that big

MotorOilMcCall 06-13-2008 10:25 AM

Yeah but generally if a farm gets that big you have a fleet of tractors, or you have a PAD/Harvesting Company come in and take care of your fields. I wouldn't mind a sleeper though, keep me off the couch if the woman gets pissed! :c:

Cumminscowboy_101 06-14-2008 03:22 AM

HA a sleeper. Yeah this guy I worked for in Texas on the big cotton farms had mini fridges in his 8000 series JD tractors. Man it was pimp. You could fit like a sammich and a six pack of Budweezer Light in one. It was positioned in the right side of the cab, in front of the armrest and thumb shifter, between the steering column and the glass. It limited visibility of the right furrow, but hey who the hell cares right? We wern't allowed to keep any tools or anything like that in these tractors. He welded toolboxes by the steps for that. When we were done for the day, we had to blow out the cabs, blow out the grills on the sides, re-grease (careful not to overpack), clean all the windows, and hose the whole thing down before we went home. EVERYDAY with the exception of times like harvest. He had four of them, 3 JD 9610 combines, Kinze carts, Pete rigs, and 2 JD cotton strippers:U:. Not to mention the assortment of implements. All his stuff was in pristine condition too. I think the mini fridge was worth it.....

DuramaxBen 06-20-2008 12:07 PM

Ok why would you even need a minifridge in a tractor?Just another thing to break down and suck power away from the tractor. What happens when your batteries die on that Deere?Do you have to recalibrate it I'm curious.
