Default 2001 F250 with Banks and DP?

Hey everyone I'm new to the forum and new to diesels.

Just bought a 2001 F250 7.3. The previous owner had the Banks Stinger Plus Kit installed. From what I understand this has some sort of tuner included with it, and the previous owner told me the transmission was tuned. Would I be able to install a DP chip with that system in place or would I need to remove that one? As far as I know this is the only modification done to the truck.

I've done some reading around on the forum but I didn't find too much info on the Banks Stinger Plus Kit and not sure how the two would interact.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to learning from the forums.

Mike.

if it was a tuner and reflashed the PCM the DP will over ride it. if it came with a chip you will have to pull it out so you can install the DP. so you should be fine

More then likely you will find on the PCM a single pos chip. This is providing your added fuel and such.

Banks does not tune the trans on our trucks, they supply a seperate "Banks Trans Command" which mounts under the truck at the trans wiring. Its not a bad unit, but if you plan on running a chip I would remove it.

Thanks for the replies.

I looked up the install instructions for the kit that I believe is on the truck and it says there should be a Banks Otto-mind chip installed on the ECU.

I'll be working on the truck when I get out of work this morning putting on Warn hubs since mine are seized in the lock position. The previous owner had turned them to lock and never took them out. Also considering changing the trans fluid. The truck shifts slowly into first and reverse. It takes two or three seconds and will start rolling before the trans engages. Not sure if that's normal or a sign of a larger problem, but figure changing the fluid wouldn't hurt.

I'll check for that chip while I'm messing around with it. I wonder if pulling that chip or the Trans Command if it has one would cause the tranny to shift quicker?

Thanks again for the help.

Got the hubs on today and got the code from the PCM for the DP chip. Didn't get a chance to look for a trans chip but did notice the Banks module on the PCM. Should be ordering the DP chip soon.

Thanks again.

when you remove the old chip and install the new one, make sure the ignition is off and the keys are in your pocket. also, dissconnect the batteries.

how many miles on trans? you just may not want to do that flush after all...

I believe the trans was rebuilt around 80,000. The previous owner told me that the guy who rebuilt it replaced first gear with the first gear from an F450 trans. I don't know anything about it so not sure if he was misinformed, full of it or if that's possible.

Putting the chip in today and we'll see how it responds with that instead of the Banks chip.

Thanks for the input, again.

that could be one of two things that i would think of, either you had the aluminum stuff stock and they replaced it with steel for added shear strength on the gears in the planetary system which is what mine had done to it OR they could have possibly made it a higher gear ratio for more low end torque for pullin in like a city area id think more likely that it had the aluminum gears so now steel instead, the chip will make a WORLD of difference i was content with my hypertech until i plugged in my ts6postion, day i plugged that in i sold the hypertech

also if you got 80k be cautious cus i did mine at 80-90 according to what the prev owner had it rebuilt and it was to late i had to have it rebuilt it at 120, make sure your fluid looks PRISTINE b4 you flush it, in a way i did it to have an excuse to get my billet TC and all that jazz that and i do actually drive my truck which didn't help the poor thing

Got the chip installed and really like how it makes the truck perform. I bought it mainly for improved MPG but I doubt I'll see any gains since I've been driving it mostly on the performance setting and driving it like I stole it.

It seems to shift much better now on the move, but its still slow shifting into first and reverse.
