I know with the 12v cummins you can buy governor spring kits which will allow you to spin the motor from 3,000rpms to 4,000rpms, depending on which kit you buy. The stock 12v starts defueling at like 1800rpms and the automatics shift at 2200rpms... but with a larger gsk it allows them to fuel all the way up to 3k, 4k, even 5k.

Is there a way to spin the 7.3 out higher? And is it worth it (power wise) on these trucks?

Get a chip and have them take the governor off.

I like the governor... it's a beautiful safety net.. the GSK is still a governor, it just governs the RPM's to a higher speed. Is there any performance to be had in a higher-spinning 7.3 though?

Yea the real quick dump all ur oil through the hole in the block kind of performance. Lol
Most common diesels have a effective range where the amount of fuel, injector duration and timing can compress into power.

Anything much past 3 k on a stock motor is just waisting fuel decreasing engine life and robbing power. I will admit it is cool but leave it to the Cummins guys to blow stuff up.

blow what up? :D

Seems like hes doing a good job

Ya I got a really in-depth explanation over at the ORG on this. Basically the heads, cam, and heui are limiting these motors stock, but 4k rpms is doable with stock components.

I sure hope someone close to this person let him know how pathetic his truck looks with those tailpipe stacks. I'm not convinced by some idiot overreving his engine that it works good for making power.

Lame find.

The ONLY thing that makes spinning the 7.3L NOT worth it is the HEUI injection system.

Sure, you can get a stock-injectored 7.3L to spin 5000 RPM but it will have ZERO power at that point. Power is fuel delivered over time; and TIME is something that the 7.3L injector does very inefficiently.

Oh, and as far as Frank's 7.3L in the video, it's been said time and time again that his reason for having those is SIMPLY for competition purposes (sled pulling/drag racing) to keep the smoke from "fogging" the lights and drowning the people in the stands.
