Seems like hes doing a good job

‪Frank 7.3 Powerstroke 5,000 rpm rev smoke.‬‏ - YouTube

That sounds pretty neat turning 5k

The ONLY thing that makes spinning the 7.3L NOT worth it is the HEUI injection system.

Sure, you can get a stock-injectored 7.3L to spin 5000 RPM but it will have ZERO power at that point. Power is fuel delivered over time; and TIME is something that the 7.3L injector does very inefficiently.

Oh, and as far as Frank's 7.3L in the video, it's been said time and time again that his reason for having those is SIMPLY for competition purposes (sled pulling/drag racing) to keep the smoke from "fogging" the lights and drowning the people in the stands.

Is there a way to hop up the heui? Such as a better hpop (and lpop?), x-overs etc? How do you decrease the timing of the injectors?

Injectors that can put out more fuel in less time is the only way.

There is a very small window of opportunity to inject the fuel and the electronics have a specific amount of time to do it (less time as RPM increases). Take into account the relatively large "lag" time between the commanded start of injection and the time it actually takes for the injector to "open" and you have a recipe for a huge lack of high-RPM power production.

Man that ford has a unique sound!

it kinda sounded like a ricer. IMO. i cannot recall where i found it. (some ones website) but it was a mechanical injection pump for the 7.3 power stroke. it sat where the hpop would be. but they didn't have very much info on it. i'll see if i can find it again.

either that or it was one hell of a hpop.

My buddy showed me a commonrail kit for a 7.3 might be able to do it with that. But trying to push higher rpm's is asking for trouble I.M.O.

I think I've heard of that common rail kit... isn't it like $5,000? lol

Red_Rattler 01-03-2012 07:10 PM

i bet its A LOT more then that...

85_305 01-03-2012 07:15 PM

Or was the kit $25,000? I cant remember now but I recall there being a thread on it. It was something ridiculous that made you want to just go buy a NEW common rail psd, instead of retrofitting the 7.3

fordornothing 01-03-2012 07:35 PM

but is spending that much just so you can spin it faster and blow your rods further away worth it?
