Default problems

i tore my 97 apart completely to put a longer frame under it and now that i have it back together i have trouble starting it and when it does start it idles very rough and it sounds like its not hittin on all cylinders. it blows heavy clouds of white smoke for about ten minutes after cold start. i think i may have messed something up with the wiring when i tried putting a newer motor in it but im not sure wat. any ideas? and it also wont also hold a charge on the batteries but that may be just because the batteries are bad

charge your batteries overnight and then check them check your alternator to see if its charging and then did you mess with your fuel system at all during the switch and do you know the history of your engine

ya i did. but even after the smoke clears up it still sounds likes its missing at lower rpms and it backfires when i get on it at all. i was gonna buy a new wiring harness from ford but there price seems a little outrageuos and im not even sure if a new harness would help much

The 01 motor has a completely differant wire harness on it. You would have to use the wire harness from your OBS on it. Also the injectors are differant but it should still have run fine.

how much have you driven it?
it does take a good drive to purge all the air out of the oil and fuel system.
after i did the injector o-rings on my powerstroke i just moved the truck around the yard it didn't run right untill i took it for a good drive.

i have all the original wiring on it now. but some of the plugs are corroded and burnt. but it ran fine when i tore it apart. is it possible that i might need a new harness? if so where could i find one cheaper than $800 from ford?
