I just bought a 6.0 intercooler on ebay last night. I was wondering if anyone has fabbed up their own tubes. I wonder if a 3" exhaust bender would work or are the bends too tight? I also thought about cutting and welding to make the bends tighter if needed.
A few months ago, I saw a guy was fabbing them up for a 7.3 or 6.0 and selling them for $150 on ebay. Does anyone know who this was? I think they were aluminum.
I have also seen where someone pieced together tubes from a 6.0 and a 7.3, but I'd rather not spend more money to do this. Thanks.

You can make your own, takes a set of 6.0 pipes and a set of 7.3 SD pipes... You will also need a E99 X pipe to fit your turbo and intake manifolds.

There is no reason to worry about heat transfer. None.
You can fab up your own if you want to, but it is just so easy to throw the e-99 one on there and be done.

I assume what you mean by "no reason to worry" is that the heat transfer is insignificant.

Here is what I know about the situation:
Heat is transferred from the hot exhaust side of the turbo to the otherwise ambient intake side. Significant enough to warrant use of an intercooler. The charge air travels through the intercooler scrubbing heat proportional to the difference in temperature between it and the ambient. Why cool the charge air at the spyder when it would make the intercooler less affective? Why reheat that same charge air at the spyder before entering the engine?
I do not KNOW the resulting temperature drop of keeping them more isolated, but I do know that it is non-zero. I do not know if it is substantial enough to warrant even trying. If the tight quarters allow it without much difficulty, I will try. If I had an e99 spyder, I would not try.
