Default What first?

Some of you know what I have and where I'm going with it. For those that don't know:

'97 7.3l, Exhaust and DP done, 6637 and intake, PCH Hydra w/ canned tunes, the mystery HPOP, tuned TP-38 and stock injectors...

Parts here: 6.0l IC, 2 SD e-fuel pumps, Billet 66mm turbo.

Parts to get: 238/100 injectors, tunes to support them.

So, just got back from a trip... Unloaded, no trailer. Elevation from 50' to 5500'. Cruising between 50-75 mph. Passing, no effort and cut it back about 80-85. I'll drop off the pedal about 80 so will drop into Over-drive... and there is so much pedal left there... it's stupid.

Pushing up a 6% grade, the EGT's get to about 1200*F until I purposely drop it down a gear, the turbo winds up... then it will drop down about 400*. I get a slight flutter if I'm at 68-70mph and "slowly" accelerate. All that was on a 80hp tune...

I've already went out of order on my mod's already and had to back-track. I threw on the Billet 66mm and it was too much air for what was there. Performance bottomed out, mileage dropped about 7 mpg, EGT's went up about 200*... just sucked all the way around.

Lessons learned from that? Well, things are supposed to fit and work together-- balance out. I want to get to between 400 to 500 hp (not over)... stay streetable, be able to tow better, and mind my mileage. I figure more power per pound will get me there. I have no idea where I'm at now. I have good acceleration, but I know it could be better. I'm getting around 18-19 mpg city and 20-22 mpg and the road.

Any ideas on a logical order I should go about those where things will stay somewhat in balance? I figure for the temps, I need to get that IC hooked up (still have to fab the tubes). Then I need to get those fuel pumps in. Those two things are needed. That was apparent during this trip. Another issue was a need for a better trans cooler.

I think the new turbo, injectors and tunes need to go in all at once. I built the turbo to get me by until I can afford a T4 kit and a S468 or S366... It's supposedly not enough to clean out for my injector choice, but, has proven to be too much air for stock injectors. Stock injectors with tunes, done seem to open up enough to provide enough fuel to spin it up.

One thing does worry me. After driving a while, if I leave it running and pull out the dip stick... there is a little steady light smoke coming from the oli dip-stick tube. It doesn't smoke at all from the exhaust... but I do have a concern going from a 25 lb. push... to 40 lb. plus. I guess I'll see. Is that normal after going up from a stock 12 lb. turbo (to larger) at idle? Maybe I'm just concerned for nothing?

Before I order the injectors, I guess I better do another compression test(?) Or should I think about investing in studs and springs first? By my gauge readings, they are telling my I'm pushing about 650 lbs of torque at the wheels now...

Glad to see you're back at work on it.
