Default '94 IDI 7.3 Inj. pump ?

Howdy gent's,

My dad has a '94 IDI w/ turbo. It loses power at mediocre rpm. Idles fine and drives around town fine, unless you step on it, or try to take a small grade. He has NOT changed the fuel filter, yet. But, suspects the Injection pump because it appears to have a small leak. I have done some research on threads by others on here. (My head hurts.) Anyway, what do you guys think? He is probably gonna have the IP rebuilt, as that is much cheaper than a new one. And, I'm sure he will change the filter, too. Neither one of us is home much. He drives OTR and I work in oilfield.

Anyway, I wondered if you guys think a leaking IP means it needs to be rebuilt? Is there a weap hole? Or, is something loose, maybe? Is there a better aftermarket IP? Would be a good time for an upgrade if there is a good one out there.

Thank you for your time, guys. Sorry so long. I have a Duramax and am still learning about it. I don't know squat about the Fords.

how many miles are on the fuel system? injectors and pump?

fuel leak could just be the feed line. there is a rubber ring on the fitting to seal it. IH calls them olives. do not try to tighten the fitting. you will just strip it.

200 thou-ish, I'm sure. Thanks Crawler, I'll let my dad know about that.

if the pump is original, it is long due for a new pump and injectors.

10-4. Thanks again. I was reading on here about timing involving the pump? If it is removed and rebuilt, or replaced, does the timing have to be set upon reassembly?

yes it will. timing by ear will not work. you will needto find a timing meter or a ferret timing adapter.
