Default 86 ford f-250 with first gen banks turbo kit

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys I just signed up on this form and I'm 16 turnin 17 in a few days and I would like to know how much boost the 6.9L heads and head gaskets can hold before putting studs in them. They say the banks turbo will pull 10 to 12 psi and sometimes 14. I just wanted know when would it be a good idea to stud the heads thanks guys.

I set my turbo WG to 10psi, some guys run 12-14 and dont have any problems. I have even heard of 18psi on rare occassions without blowing a gasket. I would get studs if you plan on going past 14psi.

The Banks tech told me head studs would keep the top end together, but if I really needed them, I'd just blow out the bottom end.

I still think a gasket would blow before the bottom end. There's no point in going higher than 10psi unless you have an intercooler anyhow. After 10psi the air is to hot from being compressed by the turbo that you will lose power. A guy on OB did a dyno run to compare. With no intercooler, I believe he lost 10-15hp going from 10psi to 15psi.
