Exclamation Transmission 68RFE Broke need alternative

I had a couple of mods on my truck an Edge with att and hot unlock, MP8, S&B CAI, 5"TBE, and snow Water/meth kit.. well I was having some issues with the edge so I took it off, the issues were connection issues and it starting acting like it wanted to stall when I was on the highway. I went to the ranch and while going in the roads were a bit muddy and the truck managed to do fine never got stuck.. so I was driving abt 5 mph because of looking through the brush for some yotes, coons and such when all of a sudden my truck felt as though I had engaged the clutch and then the truck didn't move any more.. I called the Roadside assistance and they sent someone out the problem with that was that they could not get to me so that if I could possibly drive the truck to the side of the highway so that the truck could meet me there.. I literally reversed from 1 mile inside of my ranch all about 2 1/2 miles on dirt road in reverse.. sooo it gets to the dealer

Brown Dodge in Devine took delivery of my truck, broken, the transmission, burnt out.. their response they could not cover it under warranty because it looks like i got stuck and ran the truck till it burnt out, LOL I mean seriously I guess they need me to direct them to the winch on my truck.. then she said that it was because the performance box on the truck.. " Snow Performance mileage max" My response.. look at the tank it hasn't even been used in months.. This truck has been pampered since it was acquired, never raced, no off roading, no burnouts, no power launches.. like seriously WTH? :whyme:

Here is the picture of the truck when after I reveresed from inside the ranch all the way out! this is their idea of got stuck.. I guess maybe next time I should wash it before I contact service..

So now that the warranty if voided completely I decided I needed to go nutz on the build

Love Fab Custom twin turbo Setup 62-64mm & s400 or s480
Dual CP3's
Fass system
ARP 635's
Fire Ring
Intake Horn
Snow Water Meth Injection Stage III
Black Maxx
F1's 200hp Nozzles
5" TBE
Nitrous kit

With this setup I am going to be in the 900hp range and about 2000+ in torque, I will be shipping my truck soon and need to find a transmission.

I talked to Ron at Suncoast and he has a great setup coming out in about 4 months.. and he even told me.." I am not going to blow smoke and tell you that this transmission will hold, the most hp and tq has been 700 & 1400" Many swear by the nv5600 and I have looked into it.. but the cost is nucking futz like 9800.00 +/- I also looked into going to a built 48RFE.. Anyone have any ideas on this conversion or if it's even possible..

So much for a short post..

I like Goerend...
Depends on where you live though, which builder you actualy might want to go with. My advice would be to call them all and ask away. Find out which one has the best product for your needs...

I'd be interested to know the true root cause/failure mode on the 68RFE. This is the first time I heard somebody smoking one in what appears to be normal driving.

These days you might as well assume just about any dealer where you do not have personal friends working in at least the service manager level is not going to be mod friendly, and will look to the slightest evidence of any mods to deny warranty for even minor stuff, not to mention catastrophic transmission failure.

As far as the new tranny goes, I think the built 48RE is probably the best bet at least until somebody gets more experience with the 68's in high power modes. I don't think they've been around getting modded long enough yet to prove themselves.

Nice talking with you today. Like we talked about on the phone, I think you will be better served by giving the truck to Ron and having him convert it to a 48RE. It will hold all you need it to, and with Ron's ability to tune the PCS controller, I think in the end you will wind up with a better overall product. Either way its going to be expensive, but if the truly hard core Dmax guys are running the 48RE, I see things following the same path with the 6.7 trucks that want to really run.

I wouldnt completely give up on the 68RFE just yet, who knows by the time you get ready to do all of your other mods maybe guys will be getting more out of the 68's and I have had a 5.9 with a 48, and I like my 68RFE ALOT more on the street, but that's just my opinion.

Also, are you planning on drag racing, sled pulling, or just impressing your buddies because that is kind of a deciding factor for wich tranny to do.

last i heard on the Goerend 68RFE or whatever was he had to eliminate 3rd gear due to the insane amount of pressure it produces, so if that's true no matter what you decide to do you might be ending up with less gears than you started with anyway. That being said i don't know if this is true it's just what i have heard

I spoke to Goerend and there is no talk about eliminating gears the Down low is that they are enlarging the bell housing to accommodate more clutch space but that still to be determined. My truck arrived at Suncoast yesterday we'll see what happens..
