Cummins mod
I have a 2008 cummins that is stock and I need a little help. I have heard to do the egr delete and put in a smarty programmer and fuel mileage will increase and truck will run better. But what about the dpf? Is there any bolt on aftermarket part that will get rid of it? Also whatever programmer I use I would like for it to be untraceable. Any suggestons out there?

Thanks

I would like to know what programmer would be untraceable if any. Is there one?

The smarty with ME software will let you run without the dpf.

I just read an interesting article in Diesel World mag today - it essentially said that the EPA is going to make the states smog check 07 and 08 diesels. That means an opacity test, a OBDII scanner test, and a visual inspection. Also, tampering with emissions systems is a Federal Offence.

You might want to check that article out - I sure hope it never gets to this.

From what I get, the Smarty is un-tracable IF you place the settings back to stock and remove the program. Just beaware that dodge has a new flash tune with a code that will lock out programers from downloading tunes. Smarty has there new tune ME15 that breaks the code, I am sure XRT and the rest are all over it.

It is only a matter of time before the computer programmers that develop these ECM's will make them dealer only interface units. The OBII may be on its way out as a result. That said, you will need to be very careful about removing this, that and the other if you live in an area that requires opacity testing. This is not smog testing per say. It is more along what they do in Washington State where you are required to stand on the skinny pedal full for X number of seconds. The hard throttle will develop heavy black if modified and this is a tool that the Police are using at road side checks if they suspect it has been modified - IE: missing a muffler or not.

On my 2002, I can drive it easily without smoking even with it set on 5 like it is. My trouble would most certainly be the opacity test because I would fail hands down.

Be careful.
